Challenge
A large multi-site nonprofit organization was in the middle of a hiring surge. Experienced staff at local program offices were tasked with designing and conducting training for new employees. These trainers had subject matter expertise but often had limited experience with training and instructional design. These staff needed easily-accessible resources to learn the basics of instructional design. Resources to support these individuals needed to be in a form that was quick and easy to read, with suggested actions that were realistic to implement with limited time and resources.
Solution
The goal was to create a two-page job aid to serve as a useful starting point for nonprofit staff who had taken on training responsibilities in their local offices but had relatively limited experience with the instructional design process. This job aid summarizes the Analysis phase (the A in ADDIE). It breaks down key data-gathering methods and provides concrete suggestions to make learning analysis less overwhelming and more realistic for trainers with limited time and resources.
Results
This job aid was part of a suite of resources that allowed trainers to learn the basics of adult learning theory and instructional design.
